Manchester Library Theatre

Manchester's Library Theatre, in the historic Central Reference Library in the heart of Manchester city centre, has a first-class reputation for excellence and innovation.

The theatre opened in 1952 and is one of the longest-running continuously producing theatres in the country. Its programme of contemporary dramas, modern interpretations of classic plays, and superb productions for the festive season, all performed in its intimate 312-seat auditorium, win high praise from the media and audiences alike.

The Library Theatre also hosts visits from some of the country's leading touring companies, as well as staging regular one-off events such as poetry evenings and comedy nights.

The current season at the Library continues with two shows as part of the annual queerupnorth international festival (12-16 May), followed by a revival of Alan Ayckbourn's much-loved classic comedy Relatively Speaking (22 May - 20 June), directed by Chris Honer, the theatre's Artistic Director.

The autumn 2009 season at the Library Theatre opens in September with Desperate To Be Doris (22 September - 3 October), a new production from Manchester comedy theatre favourites LipService, while the theatre's Christmas 2009 production is Grimm Tales, an adaptation by poet Carol Ann Duffy of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales, dramatised by Tim Supple, and directed by Rachel O'Riordan.
