Manchester Jazz Festival 2008 (mjf) will bring some of the most innovative and unusual contemporary jazz to the venues and streets of Manchester. With gigs throughout each day of the festival, most of which are free, this event is the ideal opportunity to sample new, live music you won’t come across every day, much of it created especially for the festival. Newly-commissioned works, UK premieres of European ensembles, the free open-air St Ann’s jazz stage: the mjf programme throws jazz into a fascinating melting pot, fusing it with other styles: Latin, folk, electronica, classical, gospel… open your ears to the sound of surprise.

One of the most successful and influential bands of all time, REM are to play at Manchester Lancashire County Cricket Club on Sunday 24 August (Bank Holiday weekend). It will be the only UK northern date on their Summer 2008 European tour.

Founded in 1992, by Yvette Livesey and the late Factory maverick Anthony Wilson, In The City (ITC) is the UK music industry's original annual convention and one of the biggest live music festivals in Europe. By day, the sharpest minds in the global music industry debate the present and plot the future of the music industry. By night, ITC presents over 600 bands across three nights in every imaginable Manchester venue.
